The 470 men will be the first to compete in the Medal race. Two last races concluded the programme on Saturday morning. Nick Asher and Elliot Willis (GBR) have lost their comfortable advantage after collecting an OCS on the first race. They will go into the medal race with a seven points lead over Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page (AUS) and ten points over Argentina Lucas Calabrese and Juan de la Fuente.
The top three only can aim at the title tonight. The Medal race for the 470 men will start at 6PM.
Star in the making... At the age of 20, Sofian Bouvet and Jeremie Mion (FRA) have participated in every medal race this year! Sailing together since 2007, the young French have claimed the Junior World and European championships last year. `Our objective this year was to select for one Medal race and so far we have done them all! We were fifth this morning but we had a bad day with equipment failure in the first race and wrong tactics in the second race. We were very disappointed as we thought we would fall out of the top 10. So we are happy to be in the Medal race again.`
Sofian Bouvet and Jeremie Mion have proved this week they can handle all conditions with two victories taken in the light air and the breeze.
The Star added two final races to the series. Eivind Melleby and Petter Morland (NOR) have kept the lead since the start of the event and go into the Medal race with a ten points lead.
Three Croatian teams have made it to the Medal Race, with best placed Marin Lovrovic and Sinisa Mikulicic (CRO) in second overall. They are the only team with a chance to take the event from the Norwegians. Andy Horton and James Lyne (USA) are placed third, on equal points with Croatian Mate Arapov and Ante Sitic (CRO). The Star Medal race is due to start at 6.40PM.
The 470 women have raced two light races and came back to shore late. Giulia Conti and Giovanna Micol (ITA) are sailing away comforting their lead by 17 points over Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout (NED). The Dutch pair is the only team with a small chance to take the title from the Italians. Henriette Koch and Lene Sommer (DEN) have dropped to 3rd but are only two points away from the Dutch. With protests lodged, these results are not yet official.
The Medal Race for the 470 women is scheduled at 7PM.
